Growth Form: Tree. 2–10 m tall.

Leaves: Leaves simple. Alternate, spiral. Blades 36–62 x 0.8–1.1 cm; leaves recurved and the upper 2/3 pendent. Margins entire. Sessile. Stipules absent.

Flowers: Flowers in inflorescence with lower bracts 10 cm long and lance-linear. Flowers bisexual (perfect); pedicels 4–6 mm long. Tepals 6. Stamens 6, inserted at base of perianth tube. Ovary superior, 3-celled; ovules 1 per cell; style filiform; stigma capitate or slightly lobed.

Fruit: Fruit 3–4–lobed; developing 1 (-2) good seeds.

Ploidy:

Habitat: Dry open canyon slopes and low forest.

Elevation Range: 435–884 m.
